Are Ozempic and Wegovy the same treatment?

Both contain semaglutide, but the product, approved uses, and dosing instructions matter. For a weight-management consultation, bring the exact medication name rather than using “Ozempic” as a general term for every GLP-1 injection. The provider will review which treatment fits your medical needs.

How do approved and compounded medications differ?

Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved. FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness, or quality before marketing. FDA recommends compounding only when a patient’s medical needs cannot be met by an approved drug. Eligibility

Start with an individual assessment.

The trials above enrolled adults with a BMI of at least 30, or at least 27 with a weight-related condition, without diabetes. Those study criteria are useful context, not a diagnosis or an automatic prescription. Your provider will review your health history, current medications, prior treatment, and goals.

Tell the provider about pregnancy or pregnancy plans, a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, and any history of pancreatitis or gallbladder problems. What side effects should I discuss?

Digestive symptoms were the most common adverse events in STEP 1 and SURMOUNT-1. Discuss nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and any prior difficulty tolerating treatment. Your provider should explain serious risks, symptoms that need prompt medical attention, and whom to contact between visits.

Can I transfer from another GLP-1 program?

Bring your prescription details, medication packaging, recent laboratory results, and treatment history. The provider will review your current plan and decide whether continuing or changing treatment is appropriate. A transfer does not automatically mean keeping the same product or dose.
