Florida summers are not gentle. Between the sun, humidity, salt water, and the sheer amount of skin we all show from May through September, your face and body get put through a lot. The smartest patients we see don’t try to fix sun damage in July. They prep for summer in April.
Here are the 5 treatments worth booking right now if you want skin that handles the next 5 months without falling apart, and a few tips on what to skip until fall.
Why Spring Is the Right Window
Most cosmetic treatments require some recovery time and strict sun avoidance afterward. That’s hard to pull off when you’re already at the beach every weekend. Spring gives you the runway: enough time to heal, settle, and let collagen do its work before the sun is at peak intensity.
It also gives the second or third session in a series time to land. Many of these treatments are most effective in a small package of visits spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
If you’re reading this in late April or early May, you’ve still got time. Past June, you’re better off waiting until September for anything that needs real downtime.
1. Botox or Dysport
This is the simplest one to fit in. Botox or Dysport relaxes the muscles that cause forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet around the eyes. It takes about 10 minutes in the chair, has zero downtime, and takes full effect over 7 to 14 days.
Why book it now? Two reasons. First, you’ll be photographed a lot this summer, and softening expression lines makes a noticeable difference in candid pool and beach shots. Second, regular Botox actually helps prevent new lines from forming over the long Florida summer of squinting in bright sun.
Dose ranges depend on muscle strength and goals. Most patients fall somewhere between 20 and 50 units across the upper face. We’ll walk you through what’s right for you in the consultation.

2. A Resurfacing Laser (MOXI or HALO)
If you want a real glow for summer, not just a softer expression but actually brighter, more even skin, a non-ablative resurfacing laser is the move. We use the Sciton platform, which gives us two great options.
MOXI is the gentler choice. It addresses early sun damage, dullness, and uneven tone. Downtime is usually 24 to 48 hours of looking like you got mild windburn. Most patients get a series of 2 to 3 sessions for best results.
HALO is the heavier option, combining ablative and non-ablative wavelengths in one pass. It targets deeper sun damage, sun spots, fine lines, and texture. Downtime runs 4 to 7 days of redness and tiny dark “MENDS” (microscopic peeling that flakes off). One session is often enough.
Both should be done at least 4 weeks before significant sun exposure. Don’t book HALO in late May expecting to be at the beach in early June.
If you’re not sure which laser fits, our MOXI vs HALO comparison walks through the differences.
3. Hydrafacial or Chemical Peel Series
Not everyone needs (or wants) lasers. For patients who want glow without downtime, a Hydrafacial or a light chemical peel series is the easier road.
Hydrafacial uses a specialized device that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, and infuses serums in one 45-minute appointment. You walk out looking refreshed and slightly dewy with no recovery. Best done monthly leading into summer.
Chemical peels use acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic, or stronger blends) to dissolve the top dead layers of skin and reveal smoother, brighter skin underneath. Light peels have no downtime. Medium-depth peels can produce 3 to 5 days of peeling. We’ll match the strength to your skin type and tolerance.
Both treatments work best as a series of 3 to 6 sessions, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Starting in March or April means you’re peaking right when summer hits.
4. Filler for Cheeks, Lips, or Under-Eyes
Filler is another low-downtime option that pays off in summer photos. Strategically placed cheek filler can restore midface volume that flattens with age. Lip filler keeps lips hydrated-looking, especially under the dehydrating combination of sun, AC, and saltwater. Under-eye filler can soften tear-trough hollows that get exaggerated by overhead summer light.
Filler should be placed 3 to 4 weeks before any major event or trip, since some swelling and minor bruising are normal for the first 1 to 2 weeks. Booking in late April for a June trip is perfect timing.
One thing we won’t do: aggressive new filler the week before you fly somewhere. Plan ahead.
5. RF Microneedling for Body and Face Tightening
If summer means short shorts, swimsuits, and sleeveless dresses, the body deserves the same prep as the face. RF microneedling is one of the few non-surgical treatments that delivers real skin tightening on the face, neck, decolletage, abdomen, and inner thighs.
How it works: tiny needles deliver radiofrequency energy below the surface, triggering collagen contraction and remodeling. Results build over 3 to 6 months, with most patients seeing visible firming within 6 to 8 weeks.
One round of RF microneedling in spring usually carries someone comfortably through the summer with steadily improving skin. A second session in early fall locks in the results.
This treatment requires real sun avoidance for 4 to 6 weeks afterward, so spring is the only smart window in Florida.
What to Skip Until Fall
Some treatments don’t belong on a summer prep list at all. Save these for September or October:
- Deep ablative resurfacing (like Profractional or fully ablative Erbium): 7 to 14 days of true downtime and weeks of strict sun protection.
- IPL on tanned skin: IPL targets pigment, and a tan is pigment. Wait until your tan fades.
- Aggressive peels (TCA over 20 percent): too much risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation in summer sun.
Sun Protection Is Still the Star
None of this matters if you skip sunscreen. SPF 30 or higher every single day, reapplied every 2 hours when you’re outside, plus a wide-brim hat, plus sunglasses. The most expensive cosmetic treatment in the world won’t beat consistent sun protection. Treatments amplify what good habits already give you.
For Florida residents we recommend a tinted mineral SPF (zinc-based) for daily wear. Tinted formulas also block visible light, which contributes to melasma and pigmentation that regular sunscreen alone misses.
How to Build Your Personal Plan
Not everyone needs all 5 treatments. The right summer prep depends on your skin type, age, current concerns, what you’ve done before, and what’s on your calendar this summer. A wedding in June calls for different planning than a low-key family beach trip in August.
When you come in for a summer prep consultation, Olympia (PA-C) maps out a realistic timeline based on what’s actually going to fit between now and your first big sun-exposure event. There’s no point pushing 4 treatments into 6 weeks if your skin will rebel.
