Radiesse Before and After: What Realistic Results Look Like Month by Month

People search “Radiesse before and after” and find two very different kinds of photos. Some look like filler photos: a sharper jawline or fuller cheeks, taken the same day. Others are months apart and show skin that just looks firmer and better supported. Both can be real. They’re showing different parts of how Radiesse works.

Radiesse does two jobs. It gives structure the day it’s placed, and then it keeps working as your own collagen builds over the following months. So if you’re trying to judge whether a before-and-after is honest, or figure out what your own timeline will look like, it helps to know which part of the process you’re looking at.

Why Radiesse Photos Look Different From Other Filler Photos

Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a gel. The gel gives immediate lift and definition, which is why a same-day jawline photo can look dramatic. Over time that gel is absorbed, and the microspheres act as a scaffold that signals your fibroblasts to lay down new collagen. Researchers examining treated skin have documented that new collagen forming after CaHA treatment.[1] A 2023 review also describes increases in collagen, elastin, and blood vessel formation.[2]

That means a genuine Radiesse “after” can mean two things. Early on, it’s mostly the product giving structure. Months later, more of what you see is your own tissue. The best before-and-after sets show both.

The Realistic Timeline, Month by Month

Day 0: The Treatment Visit

Most visits take 30 to 45 minutes. Radiesse is usually mixed with lidocaine, so treatment is more comfortable than people expect. When it’s placed at full strength in the jawline, chin, or cheeks, you’ll see added structure before you leave. Some of what you see that day is also swelling, so the mirror right after treatment isn’t the final word.

Days 1 to 7: Swelling Settles

Mild swelling, tenderness, and the chance of a bruise are normal for the first few days. As that calms down, the treated area can look a touch less full than it did in the chair. That’s expected. It’s the swelling leaving, not the product disappearing.

Weeks 2 to 4: The First Honest “After”

Once swelling is gone, you’re looking at the settled structural result. For jawline and cheek work, this is the fairest early comparison photo. If a before-and-after claims to show a finished result the next morning, it’s usually showing swelling along with the product.

Months 2 to 6: The Collagen Part

This is the stretch most people don’t know about. As the gel carrier is gradually absorbed, the collagen response is building. Patients tend to describe it as skin that looks firmer and a bit thicker, not bigger. It’s also why Radiesse results often look better at a few months than they did at a few weeks.

If You’re Doing Hyperdilute Radiesse

For the hands, chest, arms, knees, or buttocks, Radiesse is blended with saline and lidocaine and spread thinly over a larger area. In that form it isn’t adding much volume. It’s mainly working as a collagen stimulator, and an expert consensus on hyperdiluted CaHA lays out how it’s used this way on the face and body.[3] Most areas need a short series spaced a few weeks apart. So the real before-and-after is taken months later, after the series, not same-day. The hand photo above shows the immediate change. The collagen improvement keeps building after that.

Around 12 to 18 Months: Maintenance

Radiesse often lasts 12 to 18 months or longer. That’s usually longer than hyaluronic acid filler in the same area. Most patients come back for a smaller maintenance treatment instead of starting over, which keeps the look steady without big swings.

What a Treatment Plan and Cost Look Like

Radiesse is priced per syringe. How many you need depends on the areas you’re treating and whether it’s full strength or hyperdilute. Defining a jawline and restoring the backs of both hands are very different amounts of product. We map it out and give you a number at your consultation, and our pricing page has current rates.

No blog post can predict your exact result. Your anatomy, how much structure you’ve lost, your skin quality, and your own collagen response all shape the timeline. What we can give you is the general shape of the process, which is what’s above.

Who Tends to See the Best Results

Radiesse is a strong fit if you want definition and support: a softer jawline, flatter cheeks, smile lines tied to midface volume loss, or hands where veins and tendons have started to show. Hyperdilute Radiesse suits crepey skin on the body. It also helps a face that looks deflated after major weight loss, including loss on a GLP-1 like semaglutide or tirzepatide.

It’s not the right tool for lips, and it isn’t reversible with an enzyme the way hyaluronic acid filler is. That’s the main reason injector skill matters so much with this product. If you want a soft, adjustable plump, our dermal fillers guide walks through the hyaluronic acid options.

Setting Realistic Expectations From the Start

Most disappointment with Radiesse comes from judging it at the wrong moment. Day one includes swelling. Week three is the settled structure. Months three through six add the collagen improvement that makes skin look firmer. If you know that going in, the timeline makes sense and the result keeps getting better after the appointment.

Common Questions About Radiesse Results

Will I see results right away?

Yes, for full-strength placement in areas like the jawline and cheeks. Part of that first-day look is swelling, which settles over a few days. The collagen improvement builds over the following months. Hyperdilute treatments on the body work more gradually.

How long does Radiesse last?

Often 12 to 18 months or longer, depending on the area and your own metabolism. Most people schedule a maintenance treatment rather than repeating their full first plan.

Can Radiesse be dissolved if I don’t like it?

No. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, it can’t be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Your body breaks it down naturally over time. That’s why placement and a conservative plan matter.

Do you offer Sculptra?

No. Radiesse is the collagen biostimulator we use at Olympia Aesthetics. If you’ve been reading about both, our Sculptra vs Radiesse guide explains how they differ.
